About Me

I am Will Krupa's mom, Rita. Our family learned very quickly about life as a military family in about 1 years time from Willy graduating HS at the same time as the 2-503 IN ABN was being deployed in 2007. The roller coaster began to run with basic training at Ft. Benning followed by Airborne School, and leaving for Italy all by the years end. Jan 2008 was the news of deployment to Afghanistan to join the unit. I was a novice at being a military Mom and had no idea where Will was going or the kind of danger he would be in. Had no clue the amount of "firefights" he was involved in and I realize now that was a good thing. And I learned that no news was good news. One of the very first pictures Will sent was up at the outpost with Sgt. Garcia. I know Will looked up to him and I know he protected our son and gave the ultimate sacrifice on 7/13/08 as my son survived. Our lives have been forever changed and the recent Dateline special had us relive it all. To all the families that suffer each day missing their sons, fathers and husbands, not a day goes by that my family does not think of you and mourn your loss. That Christmas in 2008,  I made a red satin ornament ball with a satin ribbon and in gold lettering wrote each heroes name to adorn our tree. By God's grace stowed upon us, Will was fortunate to be home for the holiday and joined in our annual tree cutting tradition. He was very touched to see the ornaments I had made for his comrades with Sgt. Garcia right in the front surrounded by yellow ribbons. Many heartfelt thank yous to all the families of the 9 heroes and especially to Sgt. Garcia's family for sharing your son and husband with my son for a short 7 months, who laid down his life so mine would be spared. May God bless you and hold a special place in His heart and hands all the days of your lives. You are in our daily prayers.
